GLOSS AND MATTE MEASUREMENT PROCEDURE
Purpose
To determine the gloss value and prepare products with a standard and consistent surface appearance.
1. Preparation Before Measurement
1. The surfaces of the enamelled reference plate and the test plate are wiped with a dry and clean cloth to remove dust and dirt.
2. The gloss/matte measurement device must be calibrated before starting the measurement.
2. Device Calibration
1. A black reference plate is used for gloss calibration, and a white reference plate is used for matte calibration.
2. The device is placed on the reference plate so that the red arrow on the device aligns with the marking on the reference.
3. The value displayed on the device must match the value indicated on the reference plate.
* If there is a difference, calibration adjustments are made.
3. Gloss Measurement
1. The device is first placed on the surface of the standard (REFERENCE) enamel plate, and the gloss measurement is taken.
2. The device is then placed on the surface of the sample to be analyzed, and the value is recorded.
3. The measurement result is calculated as follows:
Calculation:
dg = Standard gloss value – Sample gloss value
Example:
Standard: g = 4
Sample: g = 5
dg = 4 – 5 = –1
4. Matte Measurement
* The same procedure is followed for matte measurement, using the white reference plate.
* The result is calculated by subtracting the sample value from the standard value.
